Welcome to Adachikai
dedicated group committed to the preservation and transmission of the classical Japanese sword traditions of Iaijutsu and Kenjutsu, as taught within the Muso Jikiden Hasegawa Eishin-ryu, Yamauchi-ha lineage – one of Japan’s most respected and long enduring koryu schools.

The group exists to uphold the integrity, depth and spirit of this tradition through disciplined practice and faithful transmission of teachings that have been preserved across generations.

About us

The teachings practiced within
Adachikai trace their origin to Hayashizaki Jinsuke Shigenobu, whose methods form the foundation of Muso Jikiden Hasegawa Eishin-ryu.
The Yamauchi-ha line preserves a particularly refined expression of these teachings, emphasising precision, composure, and the seamless unity of mind, body and sword.

Instruction comes from a direct student of Honda Masayoshi Sensei (Jushin), whom he trained under for over twenty years.
 Honda Sensei held the
Kongen no Maki, the highest accolade of the tradition (and Kyoshi 7th dan with the All Japan Kendo Federation) representing complete transmission of the school’s teachings and authority.

Importantly, Adachikai is a Shibu dojo of the main Tokyo Adachi Roshukai dojo in Adachi-ku, Japan. Through this direct connection, the dojo preserves
and transmits the teachings of
Yamauchi-ha as handed down through the Roshukai lineage.
These relationships are very much alive, and students have the opportunity to train in Japan under the current
Tokyo Adachi Roshukai leaders, ensuring that instruction remains aligned, and therefore allowing access to authentic teachings preserved with exceptional care and depth.

About us

Without correct attitude, correct technique cannot be transmitted.”

Training consists of developing four points through continuous practice and strict adherence to instruction. Over time, this leads to a deeper understanding, as the four points gradually become unified.

01. Basics

02. Waza

03. Spirit

04. Respect

01

Basics

Learning the basics is
essential as they create the foundation for all future progress. Through simple movements we develop correct posture, timing, awareness and control – without which advanced techniques have little value. True mastery comes not
from complexity, but from deep understanding of fundamentals.

02

Waza

Waza represents the
technical expression of
iaijutsu and kenjutsu, where correct form, timing, and intent unite in movement. Through repeated and mindful practice, waza develops coordination, control, and accuracy
with the sword.
It is through waza that understanding is refined
into reliable skill.

03

Spirit

Spirit gives life to technique, shaping the practitioner’s presence, resolve, and composure so movement arises from intention rather than habit.
It is not aggression or intensity, but the ability to remain calm, focused
and purposeful.

Spirit is expressed through discipline, awareness, timing and respect for others.
Spirit projects confidence
and intent without force, giving meaning to technique beyond physical movement.

04

Respect

Respect grounds the
practice in humility and responsibility. It reminds the practitioner that every lesson, movement and tradition carries meaning beyond the self. Through respect, one develops discipline,
gratitude, and a deeper connection to the art and those who have walked the path before.

Waza is where combative understanding is experienced, not explained.
